Nova Scotia is exploring a pilot project to improve the health of the ocean and provide a more sustainable form of food production referred to as restorative or regenerative aquaculture.
This multi-year study observes how sea kelp influences the growth of shellfish and in turn clarity of water helps the sea kelp photosynthesize and maximize growth. The kelp produced can then be used for many purposes, including human consumption.
“There is this shift going on, where more and more people are looking out to the ocean as a place to rebuild and build a climate resilient economy.”
