In the U.S., floating wind technology is projected to revive wind energy that has historically been constrained by location, equipment shortages, and disgruntled oceanside property owners. For California, offshore wind could be the key to achieving 60 percent renewable electricity by 2030 and 100 percent by 2045. But, for many offshore fishermen, “the ocean is their office.” Some of this technology could potentially disrupt their current way of life and the wind industry has learned that they must work with locals to guarantee success as the consequences of ignoring local concerns could be dire.
