Researchers from Virginia Tech are closing in on being able to successfully convert food waste into rechargeable batteries. The fiber and biomass in food waste “was the key to develop an advanced carbon material that could be used as a battery anode, the negative terminal on a battery.”
The result of this research has the opportunity to “solve two urgent issues in two different industries:” that of global food waste and the environmental impacts of batteries. The goal is to eventually have these batteries charge the devices and technology we use every day!
